Dull thoughts on a shiny, shiny world.
Everyone out there should be aware of this particular gem of a website: Link

But I'd like to draw your attention specifically to this article: Link

We all know that the French, whether you love them or hate them, have a reputation for being more sophisticated than our American cousins. I think the article says it all: whether throwing a pipebomb or demolishing a McDonalds, the beret is vastly more sophisticated than the baseball cap.

C'est la vie, gitu deh and she'll be right mate.

French authorities have been reluctant to send in troops to quell the protests, insisting that a military presence will only be legitimate with UN backing.

So, Chirac is even too cowardly to enforce the laws of his own land without the blessing of his god, the UN. I'm sure Kofi Annan is just biting at the bit to send UN help.. Maybe the "help" can rape a few French women too, just like in Africa.

I thought that it was serious for a moment!  Great humor site tho!

The French have never needed a good reason to buckle in the face of adversity, this is no different. Maybe the French should slice off some of their country and gift it to terrorists.

Is that the Aussie version of "The Onion"? If so, I'm bookmarking that.

My favorite headline is Socceroos finalise World Cup preparations: will watch at beach resort

'cause apparently Aussie footballers suck.

I take it back. I found better headlines:

Woman swallows medicine ball: just gets sicker

Terrorists name Melbourne "world’s most bombable city"

Comedy. Pure comedy.

Say what you like about the French, the fact is that while the property damage was pretty huge, the loss of life was incredibly small--especially compared to the typical American week-long riot.

I'm adopting a "wait and see" policy on this. Maybe the French actually handled a bad situation well. On the other hand, the next few years may reveal that a harsh police crackdown and greater casualty numbers were the only way to prevent even worse and longer-lasting horrors in the future.

At this point, I'm just not sure. I do wish them the best of luck, though. And I hope we can learn valuable lessons from the outcome, whatever it turns out to be.

Yeah it was a comedy site... I was very, very surprised that you thought it was real ParaTed. At least you only fell for it for a moment, or less than one day at any rate. Otherwise I would have been worried, even if it does sound a little like Chirac surely the rest doesn't sound like actual french people? They do have hearts you know, especially when they are suffering!

In a word - yes. Although it started life as an actual (roughly fortnightly) newspaper rather than being online. It also does news headlines-style video broadcasts through abc, australia's government and most left-wing broadcaster. You can get them on www.abc.net.au and possibly following links, although I'm not certain about that.
