Both were horrible caricatures built towards satisfying American bigotry and ignorance about Australia.

You mean Steve Irwin and Paul Hogan were really Americans? Wow, I didn't know that!

Of course they weren't, cacto, and there's a huge difference between making fun of one's own culture and making fun of others'....especially when your POV is based entirely on ignorance.
